Thursday June 9th, we will be hosting our families once again for a Final Family Friday! Our classroom doors will open at 2:15 p.m. Plan for the weather that day as we are planning for an outdoor story time for you and your child 🙂

The week of June 20th we are planning a day at the park, including a picnic lunch and time at the splash pad.  The exact date is still to be determined and is weather dependent.  Parents are welcome!

Weather permitting, we may take a leisurely walk(s), or walk to the park to play during the next month. Please be sure to dress your child according to the weather (including sunscreen).

**Please note** As per school policy,  staff/lunchroom monitors are not allowed to help your child apply sunscreen.  If your child has difficulty applying their own sunscreen please make sure you apply it in the morning.

Library Notice

Good afternoon and happy Friday!

We’ve made it to the end of the week already!  We’ve been busy exploring our seed/planting inquiry even further!

Just a quick note from the library. Our library day is Day 1 which, until the next holiday will fall on a Friday.  There are many students in our class that are unable to take another book home at this time because they have not yet returned their other books.

If you could, please have a look at home and make sure all school library books are returned as soon as possible. The children really look forward to the opportunity to take a new book home.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Introducing: Family Friday

We are excited to invite you into our classroom to see the learning that is taking place.  We will send  a letter home outlining our plans in more detail for our Family Friday in your child’s zippy.

Our first Family Friday will be Friday, March 11th.
We will be opening our classroom doors at 2:00 for families, and asking that

Please feel free to come any time after 2:00 but be mindful that we will need time to get ready for home.  This usually begins at approximately 2:50.

During this time our room is fully open, your child may want you to sit in our quiet living room area and read together, they may want to show you the art table where they create, they may want to build with you using a variety of materials, they may want to imagine and create in our dramatic centre, they may want to write with you or play a favourite game.

Some students may want to sit with you and your child as you read/play/create. This is a great opportunity for you to get to know your child’s friends at school.

Please remember we are still teaching/supporting/working with students too, as some families may not be able to attend this date, and therefore, we as educators will be engaged with all students during this Family time.

We are offering the option for older siblings who are available at school to attend with their younger sibling (should a parent/aunt/uncle or grandparent not be able to attend) ** This will be cleared with your child’s teacher prior to this date.

Winter Weather

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

We’ve made it to 2016!  We hope all our families had a wonderful Winter Break and were able to spend it with family and friends.  We are excited to welcome all our students back to Fred C. Cook in 2016.  We have new adventures and learning to explore as we continue in JK/SK.

The New Year has also brought with it some snow! The children have been so excited to finally  get to play in the snow/build snowmen/snow forts. With that in mind, we would like to remind parents to please label all winter items (snow pants, jackets, boots, gloves, hats etc.).  It is also a good idea to ensure your child has at least 1 pair of waterproof gloves and a few pairs of extra socks.
